At Neston Primary School, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas.
Art, and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. At Neston Primary School we aim to deliver high quality art and design education which inspires and challenges pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
Progression should be evident throughout each unit of work and between year groups. Art and design work is evidenced and explored in portfolios where children are provided with stimulating opportunities to develop their skills and experiment with their own creative ideas. The art curriculum has links to other curriculum areas to promote depth of knowledge and understanding.
As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject at Neston Primary School in which children are encouraged to learn to think and intervene. Children use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.
